We moved in to our home about 1.5 years ago, and it has been a continual work in progress. (I know, I know; Welcome to being a homeowner). Ayden’s room has been in dire need of a makeover, so I was determined to transform her room without breaking the bank. I am excited to share her big girl room makeover, complete with hacks, links and discount codes below.

I really wanted to bring some whimsy fun into this room makeover, to match Ayden’s bright personality. The big, blank wall next to her bed was basically begging for something bold, but I couldn’t convince my husband to commit to permanent wallpaper. Then I found Rocky Mountain Decals, and my mind was blown. They offer the most beautiful and adorable non-permanent, self-adhesive wallpaper. Ayden and I scrolled through dozens of gorgeous prints and designs, and finally narrowed it down to the cutest ever rainbow wallpaper. I am genuinely obsessed with is and so is she. Fun fact, I installed the entire wall by myself–it’s that easy. (However I recommend employing someone else to help you; I am just really impatient).

After her wall was beautified, our first order of business was to upgrade Ayden’s bed. Previously she slept on a full size mattress and box spring, which was intentional because you know, kids fall out of bed sometimes (at least mine do.) We have been using Beddy’s Bedding for over a year, and it has been an insane game-changer for us. Gone are the days of fighting over bed-making. All Ayden has to do is zip it up, and voila! Her bed is made and looks great. I wanted to update her bedding to something a bit more neutral, since her wall is now adorned with bright rainbows, so together she and I selected the Goldie Dot Beddy.

‘That rug really tied the room together’, (name that movie). But seriously, why does a rug feel like such a big commitment? Since this was a big girl room makeover, I wanted to find something that could take Ayden from little kid to big kid. I also wanted something that wouldn’t clash with her bright walls. We selected this rug, from Lorena Canals and it is gorgeous! Here is the best part, Lorena Canals rugs are washable. Did you hear me? Washable! The rug itself is super soft, and it compliments her room perfectly.

Let’s talk details. To me, little accents make a big impact. We purchased Ayden’s Ikea dresser second-hand for $40. Guys. I stalked this dresser on Facebook Marketplace for weeks, and hit the jackpot, as it was in perfect condition. All I did to update it was to change out the knobs. You can find them here on Amazon!

Another easy way to create a room makeover, is to just move stuff around that you already have. We ended up relocating a wall shelf, and instead hung a tapestry I made years ago. (Click here for the DIY).
I have a confession. We still have not hung closet doors in any of our rooms. Since we were creating this room makeover on a budget, I needed an inexpensive solution. I wound up finding the cutest, softest curtains from Opal House at Target, and boom. Instant, easy access ‘closet doors’. It’s a nice temporary fix, and I will probably do the same thing in Frankie’s room until we can commit to closet doors. We also purchased this curtain rod, which I am slightly obsessed with.

Other details… Our super cute hanging rainbow art comes from a dear friend’s shop, Smith + Stitch. She hand makes each of these to order, and they are so special. Her shop is currently on a break, but make sure to sign up for my email list, as I will be announcing her reopening.
